Cities Alive: Designing for urban childhoods
This report highlights why and how city stakeholders should start to create child-friendly urban environments. It begins by highlighting the changing urban context, then sets out five core challenges of urban childhoods: traffic and pollution; high-rise living and urban sprawl; crime, social fears and risk aversion; isolation and intolerance; and inadequate and unequal access to the city. The report explores the benefits that child-friendly practices can bring, illustrated by case studies from around the world. It is useful for all those accountable or having an interest in the urban planning process.
